A speech to the House of Lords set out plans for 37 bills to be passed in the next parliamentary session, including eight previously introduced measures. The Steel Industry (Nationalisation) Bill would give ministers powers to fully nationalise British Steel, subject to a public interest test. A European Partnership Bill would include powers to fast-track legislation to deliver new EU agreements. A Regulating for Growth Bill would enable pilot schemes to boost innovation, including defence technology and AI-controlled ships. A Competition Reform Bill would speed up competition regulator reviews, while an Enhancing Financial Services Bill would reduce compliance burdens. Measures include late-payment penalties, leasehold restrictions for new flats, social housing protections, cladding remediation funding, stronger passenger rights enforcement, and a national taxi and private hire vehicle database.
