Dozens of USAID contracts were canceled last weekend. Here's what happened
Briefly

The Trump administration has canceled 42 humanitarian aid programs that were previously funded by USAID amidst a broader reorientation of foreign aid strategy. This followed the cancellation of thousands of programs last month. The decision impacts critical services, including food aid from the U.N.'s World Food Programme, and affects programs that were initially deemed essential. The move, as stated by the State Department, is part of an effort to rectify perceived mismanagement and misaligned priorities in foreign assistance.
Over the weekend, however, at least 42 of those programs were informed that USAID had canceled their contracts, which provided funding for the delivery of aid services over a set period of time.
The contracts, which covered a variety of humanitarian activities, including food aid administered by the U.N.'s World Food Programme, were canceled at the direction of Jeremy Lewin, the acting deputy administrator for policy and programs at USAID.
