Martinez experienced intense contractions two blocks from Methodist Dallas Medical Center and labor progressed rapidly until the baby's head began to emerge. Mendoza stopped the car at the hospital driveway and assisted in delivering the infant while a valet attendant ran for help. Nurses, doctors, a volunteer and the hospital president responded immediately; staff and volunteers supported the couple in the parking area. Mendoza placed the newborn on Martinez's abdomen and covered the baby with a blanket. A volunteer checked the infant's responsiveness and tapped the baby on the back. Surveillance cameras recorded the dramatic arrival.
