"A drug trafficker from Mexico pleaded guilty Monday in San Diego federal court to taking part in the shooting deaths of a married couple with whom he had allegedly conspired to traffic drugs, including a mother who was six months pregnant with her fourth child. Benjamin Madrigal Birrueta, 24, admitted in a plea agreement that he and others shot and killed the husband in August 2022 during a dispute on a ranch in Washington state."
"Prosecutors previously said the victims Cesar Armando Murillo, 44, and Maira Sofia Hernandez, 33, both residents of Yakima disappeared just days after federal agents interviewed them in relation to a drug-trafficking investigation. Madrigal pleaded guilty to two counts of killing or causing the killing of Murillo and Hernandez while engaged in a drug-trafficking conspiracy. He also pleaded guilty to one count of causing the death of a child in utero while engaged in a continuing criminal enterprise."
Benjamin Madrigal Birrueta, 24, pleaded guilty to participating in the August 2022 shootings of Cesar Armando Murillo, 44, and his wife Maira Sofia Hernandez, 33. Hernandez was six months pregnant with her fourth child. Madrigal admitted that he and others shot the husband during a dispute on a Washington state ranch, and that he later lured the pregnant wife to the ranch, where co-conspirators killed her. Madrigal directed co-conspirators to bury both bodies in the high desert outside Yakima, Wash., and the remains remained undiscovered for more than a year. He pleaded guilty to counts tied to drug-trafficking conspiracy and causing the death of a child in utero. Prosecutors declined to seek the death penalty.
