""seemed to indicate""
Rashaun Jones faces a long-delayed murder trial in the 2006 killing of teammate Bryan Pata, with jurors expected to convene Oct. 6. Prosecutors repeatedly informed Florida 11th Circuit Court Judge Cristina Miranda that key witness Paul Conner was deceased, including as recently as July. Police relied on a public database that "seemed to indicate" Conner was dead, yet investigators offered no documents proving any in-person visit to the Louisville address. ESPN reporters located Conner alive at that address; Conner said he rarely leaves his apartment and was unaware anyone had been looking for him. State and defense officials acknowledge the revelation could affect the case.
