FBI Found 'Classified' Documents During John Bolton Raid
"No charges have been filed. These are the kinds of ordinary records, many of which are 20 years old or more, that would be kept by a 40-year career official who served at the State Department, as an Assistant Attorney General, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and the National Security Advisor, Bolton's lawyer said in a statement about the documents."
"The FBI's raid uncovered travel memo documents with pages labeled secret and a number of other documents labeled classified, including one referring to weapons of mass destruction. One set of files was marked confidential, but redacted in the official inventory. Bolton's lawyer has denied any wrongdoing by Bolton and said the documents obtained are years or even decades old. The FBI also confiscated four computers and a flash drive."
FBI agents searched John Bolton's Washington office on August 22 and obtained documents labeled classified. The inventory included travel memos with pages labeled secret, other documents labeled classified, and a document referring to weapons of mass destruction. One set of files was marked confidential but redacted in the inventory. The FBI also confiscated four computers and a flash drive. No charges have been filed. Bolton's lawyer denied wrongdoing and said many documents are years or decades old and consistent with records kept by a 40-year career official who served in senior government roles. The affidavit says the investigation began after an alleged foreign government hack of Bolton's AOL email. Bolton has criticized Donald Trump and expressed fear of Trump's retribution.
