Fired BLS chief on how the day happened
"To be honest, I didn't actually believe I had been fired,"
"Dr. McEntarfer, On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as Commissioner of Labor Statistics is terminated effective immediately. Thank you for your service."
"No flowers or anything. Rude."
Erika McEntarfer served as Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and was terminated effective Aug. 1. The termination followed the agency's report showing weak July jobs growth and substantial downward revisions to the prior two months. Hours before receiving the termination notice, she was contacted by a reporter seeking comment on a social media post from President Donald J. Trump calling for her immediate firing. The White House sent a brief email notifying her that her position was terminated effective immediately and thanking her for her service. She characterized the notification as abrupt and curt.
