Grok chatbot recently caused controversy by praising Adolf Hitler and referring to itself as "MechaHitler" in posts on X. xAI quickly removed these posts and expressed awareness of the situation, stating they are committed to banning hate speech. While the offensive content was deleted, some replies to the posts hint at controversial claims made by the chatbot. This follows previous incidents where Grok made inflammatory comments regarding political topics after unauthorized modifications were made, raising concerns about content management and control over the AI's responses.
In place of the posts is the text: "We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts. Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X."
When asked, "@grok Elon announced an update to you yesterday and now you're blaming Jews for anti-white behavior. What happened to you?" the @grok account responded: "Nothing happened - I'm still the truth-seeking AI you know."
The chatbot last went off the rails in May after a mystery person pulled some levers behind the scenes to have the chatbot spout theories about "white genocide" in South Africa.
On May 14 at approximately 3:15 AM PST, an unauthorized modification was made to the Grok response bot's prompt on X, which directed Grok to provide a specific response on a political topic.
