Hundreds of Filipino activists march against ICE in San Francisco
"We're here today to denounce all the attacks on migrants rights, all the attacks on Filipino activists by the Marcos-U.S. dictatorship,"
"We have Filipino migrants who aren't being assisted by their Philippine government, who are being arrested and deported by the Trump administration,"
"We went to the U.S. immigration court. We had speakers talk about how immigrants are being pulled off the street, they're being pulled out of the courthouse, abducted and deported,"
"has offered little to no assistance to Filipino migrants in detention."
More than 300 people marched in a Filipino-led protest denouncing immigration crackdowns and the treatment of Filipino migrants held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody. Organizers and speakers said Filipino migrants are being arrested, deported, and receiving little assistance from the Philippine government, naming crew ship workers, hospital workers, and caregivers among those targeted. Protesters described ICE tactics that include pulling immigrants off the street and seizing people in courthouses. Organizers cited government data showing a steep decline in Filipinos in San Francisco immigration court from 531 cases in 1998 to 82 in 2024. Activists linked the enforcement to directives from the Trump administration.
