ICE officials will have access to a database containing Medicaid enrollment data, including names, addresses, birth dates, ethnicity, and Social Security numbers for participants. Access is restricted to weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until September 9, with no downloading of data permitted. This agreement follows reports of ICE gaining access to data from the Internal Revenue Service, raising concerns over privacy and data security for vulnerable populations covered under Medicaid.
The database will reveal to ICE officials the names, addresses, birth dates, ethnic and racial information, as well as Social Security numbers for all people enrolled in Medicaid.
The agreement does not allow ICE officials to download the data. Instead, they will be allowed to access it for a limited period from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Sept. 9.
This comes after news that ICE will access data from the Internal Revenue Service.
