An Economist/YouGov poll conducted December 5-8 measured public approval of three clemency actions by President Donald Trump. The poll asked about pardons for former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife, and a commutation for David Gentile. Hernandez was convicted in 2024 of drug trafficking and sentenced to 45 years in prison. Cuellar and his wife had been charged with accepting $600,000 in bribes. Gentile had been convicted of a $1.6 billion financial fraud and served two weeks of a seven-year sentence before commutation. Majorities disapproved of each action: roughly two-thirds opposed each pardon or commutation.
