"Are you jealous when you see your successor and RFK Jr and they're at the airport doing pullups? And you think, 'Why didn't I think of putting jungle gyms in the airport?'"
"You know, I love exercise, I love air travel... Putting them together is not really something I would think to do,"
"Also, of all the problems you could be trying to solve with the aviation system right now, why are you doing that while dismantling the protections we put in?"
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and HHS Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. announced DOT grant money for airports to improve passenger experience, including installing gym equipment, and held a pull-up contest. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg responded by noting the incongruity of promoting airport exercise amenities while the DOT is loosening consumer protections for air travelers. Buttigieg highlighted recent regulatory rollbacks, including withdrawal of a Biden-era rule requiring airlines to compensate passengers for significant delays and cancellations, and pointed to delays in DOT enforcement actions earlier in the year.
