Donald Trump refused to meet Democratic congressional leaders intended to avert a possible federal government shutdown and posted on Truth Social assigning blame to the transgender community. He accused Democrats of making demands including more than $1 trillion in new spending to "continue free healthcare for Illegal Aliens," a reference to enhanced ACA subsidies. He alleged Democratic aims to "force Taxpayers to fund Transgender surgery for minors," "allow men to play in women's sports," and to "essentially create Transgender operations for everybody." The Senate rejected competing funding measures; Democrats had passed a measure to fund the government through 20 November. Trump said Democrats have "totally lost their way" and offered to meet only if they agreed to principles he outlined.
