Tung has never held public office or served as a judge. He built a profile championing the cryptocurrency industry and appeared on a Federalist Society panel debating legal efforts to restrain 'agents' of the left. The White House Counsel’s Office approached Tung on March 28, and he received public support from President Trump and backing from ally Mike Davis.
