Utah Republican Proposes Bill That Would Allow Gun Owners to Carry at NBA Games
"We're a Second Amendment state, said Rep. Candice Pierucci, R-Herriman, and we have a really robust concealed carry permit."
"The idea would be that if you're going to accept state dollars, we should at least have a discussion on if you're going to prohibit someone's Second Amendment rights while you're there."
State Representative Candice Pierucci introduced HB452 to require private venues that receive more than $1 million in public funding to permit concealed-carry permit holders to bring firearms. The Delta Center, home to the Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth, would meet that funding threshold and fall under the bill's criteria. Pierucci stated that Second Amendment rights should apply where government funding is accepted and said the proposal was inspired by a constituent who wanted to bring a firearm to games. The NBA and the Delta Center currently prohibit possession of firearms at games and events.
