WATCH: Spencer Cox Jeered at Turning Point Event Near Where Charlie Kirk Was Killed
"My first thought was just, please don't die, please, we've got to keep him alive,' and then I knew about Charlie's wife, I knew he had two little kids, and that's the humanity of all of this, right? And I think it changed all of us, because what I realized very quickly was that this was an attack on Charlie Kirk because of his political beliefs. We knew that. It was a political assassination, and people were afraid to say that, we should not be afraid to call things what they are."
"Guys, I'm going to do the Charlie Kirk thing and say, Guys, let's facilitate a conversation here.' I promise that we'll get to the end of it and then we'll ask questions. Is that cool?"
"I can't unsee it I can't stop seeing it. Every time I close my eyes, that's what I see,"
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox faced boos while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah State University, roughly 120 miles from where Charlie Kirk was shot. Turning Point COO Tyler Bowyer intervened to calm the crowd, urging facilitation of conversation and prompting a large cheer. Some attendees may have reacted to Cox's earlier remarks that Kirk "said some very inflammatory things." Cox said he is haunted by the viral footage and recounted that his first thought was to keep Kirk alive while noting Kirk had a wife and two young children. Cox called the shooting a political assassination.
