"White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed Monday that President Donald Trump's intervention in a labor dispute saved the historic Ryder Cup from being disrupted. During her opening remarks at Monday's briefing, Leavitt went over Trump's schedule for the week. Included in the schedule was a trip to New York on Friday to watch the Ryder Cup the 98-year-old golf competition that pits an American team against a European one."
"In the weeks leading up to the Ryder Cup, there was a great deal of concern when it came to transportation to the event. Earlier in the month, several Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) unions voted to authorize a strike in the event of contract negotiations falling through. As noted in a report from CBS News, at least half of the estimated 250,000 competition attendees were expected to use LIRR services to get to and from the golf course."
Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump intervened in a labor dispute to prevent disruption of the Ryder Cup. She outlined Trump's schedule, including a Friday trip to New York to watch the 98-year-old competition between American and European teams. Several Long Island Rail Road unions had voted to authorize a strike if contract talks failed, and roughly half of the expected 250,000 attendees would have relied on LIRR service. Leavitt credited Trump's Executive Order with preventing a strike that could have crippled the New York City area, noting that five LIRR labor unions requested the action. Leavitt cited Bryson DeChambeau's commendation of Trump's leadership.
