Burnout Paradise Director's Studio Faces Shutdown After 12 Years
""As an independent studio, we will not see revenue from [ Wreckreation] game sales for the foreseeable future," said Sperry."
""We have had to self-fund most of this year and all of the post-launch content. Without the enthusiasm or financial support from our publisher [THQ Nordic] to continue development, we simply cannot sustain the studio in its current form. Making this decision has been unbelievably painful.""
""But even if that hope does not materialise, we want this to stand as a testament to our vision and to the strength, passion, and skill of our tiny team," said Sperry. "I truly believe in the potential of this game and in the brilliance of the people who built it.""
All employees at Three Fields Entertainment have been given formal notices of redundancy as a legal precursor to layoffs in the UK. The studio’s open-world racing game Wreckreation has not generated viable revenue for the studio, and the team self-funded most of the year and all post-launch content. Lack of further enthusiasm or financial support from publisher THQ Nordic prevents continued development at current scale. The studio shared a video of planned features and modes to attract potential publishers or investors. A free crossplay update will be released before Christmas at the studio’s expense. The studio faces possible shutdown if new funding is not secured.
