"The two extra clans, Lasombra and Toreador, will be unlockable via the $22 Shadows and Silk add-on pack--this is also included in the pricier deluxe edition of the game and the Santa Monica Memories DLC--and this decision did not go over well with fans of the series. "We are listening to your feedback about the Lasombra and Toreador clan access, and we're making adjustments ahead of launch to reflect this. We will share more information about what this means as soon as possible," community developer DebbieElla wrote in the Bloodlines 2 Discord group (via ResetEra)."
"It's also worth noting how clans work in Bloodlines 2. Primarily, clans offer distinct powers and skills based on their overall identity, with the Toreador embodying the romanticized aspect of vampires with their ability to seduce their victims, while the Lasombra are predators who can bend the shadows to their will. These are two clans that have vastly different identities, but their skills can still be unlocked in Bloodlines 2, if you're aligned with the other four playable clans."
The Chinese Room is reevaluating plans to lock the Lasombra and Toreador clans behind a $22 Shadows and Silk add-on after negative fan reaction. The Shadows and Silk pack is included in the deluxe edition and the Santa Monica Memories DLC, and the developer initially said the clans were additional work requested by publisher Paradox. The Toreador specialize in seduction while the Lasombra manipulate shadows. Clan powers can still be unlocked by other clan alignments but require more skill points and rare blood resources. The developer says adjustments will be made and further details will be shared before launch.
