Four Washington Capitals players — forwards Bogdan Trineyev, Henrik Rybinski, Graeme Clarke and defenseman Louie Belpedio — cleared NHL waivers and are eligible to be assigned to the Hershey Bears. Hershey opened its first training camp under new head coach Derek King and won its first preseason game 5-1 over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Trineyev and Rybinski were members of Hershey's back-to-back Calder Cup teams in 2023 and 2024 and had career years last season. Trineyev played three preseason games for Washington, while Rybinski averaged 14:07 in two games. The Capitals also loaned prospect goaltender Garin Bjorklund to Hershey and must trim their roster to 23 players by October 7, currently carrying 33 players.
