Ilya Protas scored his first professional goal for the Capitals. What would his brother Aliaksai say? 'Nothing but luck.'
""aliaksei is smiling,""
""I saw the D try to dive,""
""I tried to pass behind him, and he put his stick on it, and I got lucky, and it went five hole.""
""It's huge opportunities and I'm always proud to put the jersey (on) and play preseason games and try to play my best,""
Ilya Protas scored his first professional goal on a two-on-one while driving the Blue Jackets' net with Bogdan Trineyev. His pass banked off Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson and slipped under goaltender Jet Greaves to give the Capitals a 3-1 lead early in the second period. Protas said he saw the defender dive, tried to pass behind him, and called the goal lucky when it went five hole. He played 14:11, added two shot blocks, logged the sixth-highest game score on the Capitals, and has two points in three preseason games. He spent last season with the OHL's Windsor Spitfires.
