Google On Why Google Search Console LCP Is Not Wrong
"CrUX measures page loads and the Core Web Vitals number is the 75th percentile of those page loads."
"That's a fancy way of saying: "the score that most of the page views get at least" - whee "most" is 75%."
"For an ecommerce site with LOTS of products, you'll have some very popular products (with lots of page views!), and then a long, long tail of many, many less popular pages (with a small number of page views). The issue arises when the long tail adds up to be over 25% of your total page views."
CrUX captures individual page loads and calculates Core Web Vitals using the 75th percentile of those loads. Google Search Console often displays example URLs that have sufficient page-level CrUX data, which typically biases examples toward more popular pages. Sites with many low-traffic pages can have a long tail that shifts aggregated CrUX results when that tail exceeds 25% of total views. Both CrUX and Search Console can present accurate but different views because they use different samplings and thresholds. Prioritization should focus on high-traffic pages and understanding CrUX data thresholds.
