He has also been speaking out about security forces' violations and forced evictions in Mogadishu. On Thursday, the Guardian published a story by Bulbul, where Ali spoke about being tortured in Mogadishu central prison."
Mohamed Bulbul, along with two other journalists, was arrested in Mogadishu and assaulted by members of Somalia’s US-trained counter-terrorism police unit. The three were taken for questioning and released in the early hours of Saturday morning. Media outlets and MPs said the arrests were unlawful and politically motivated, occurring during an intensifying crackdown as public anger rises and the presidential term ends on 15 May. Opposition MP Abdirahman Abdishakur condemned the detentions, citing forced displacement, land grabbing, and repression of journalists, activists, and outspoken young people. Bulbul’s detention was believed linked to reporting on Sadia Moalim Ali, a 27-year-old rickshaw driver imprisoned for peaceful protest and activism. Ali described torture in Mogadishu central prison, including stripping, beatings, and prolonged confinement without food.
