"It means we have to look our sports, disciplines and events with fresh eyes to make sure we are evolving with our times,"
"We will face difficult decisions and conversations that's part of change. I know these discussions can be, and potentially will be, uncomfortable but they are essential if we are to keep the Games strong for generations to come."
Kirsty Coventry is the first female IOC president in the organization's 130-year history and has launched a comprehensive review of the Olympic program. The review, started last June, covers more than 450 medal events organized by over 40 sports federations across the Summer and Winter Games. The review aims to identify which sports, disciplines and events work and which do not, and to ensure the program evolves with changing audiences and times. Recent Summer Games additions targeted youth audiences with urban sports such as skateboarding.
