Approximately 20 Israeli vessels approached and intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters as passengers donned life vests and prepared for boarding. Organisers reported vessels were illegally intercepted and said communications were jammed, disrupting live streams and inter-boat contact. Multiple participants were detained, including Greta Thunberg and several Irish citizens such as Sinn Féin senator Chris Andrews, author Naoise Dolan, and comedian Tadhg Hickey.
