Verstappen has won the past two grands prix and sits 69 points behind Piastri, while Norris trails Piastri by 25 points. Red Bull and McLaren exchanged upgrades, producing closer performance with Monza favouring Red Bull and Baku exposing missed opportunities for McLaren. McLaren management says both drivers can race freely unless favouring one is needed to secure the title. Singapore's Marina Bay has been declared a heat hazard with forecasts above 31C and humidity over 70% requiring cockpit cooling vests.
