Pakistan: Security in Balochistan hits new low
"These are extremely serious and significant attacks. It was also one of the most violent days in Balochistan for quite some time,"
"These are not sporadic low-level incidents. They are widespread, coordinated assaults across the province, indicating a higher operational tempo than seen in recent years,"
Coordinated gun attacks and suicide bombings struck schools, banks and security installations across Balochistan, killing 50 people, mostly civilians including women and children. Security forces launched raids in several areas against members of the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army and officials reported 177 BLA fighters had been killed. The provincial government imposed restrictions on public gatherings and face coverings. Pakistan accused India of supporting the BLA without providing evidence; New Delhi rejected the allegations. Balochistan is Pakistan's largest and poorest province, mineral-rich and home to the ethnic Baloch minority that reports discrimination and exploitation by central authorities.
