Russian rocket launches Iran satellite into space: Iranian media
Briefly

Iran successfully launched the Nahid-2 communications satellite from Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome using a Soyuz rocket. This satellite, weighing 110kg and designed by Iranian engineers, represents a notable advancement in Iran's aerospace capabilities. Western governments express ongoing concerns that advancements in Iran's space program could enhance its ballistic missile technology. The launch coincided with nuclear negotiations between Iran and European nations in Istanbul and follows previous achievements, including launching a domestically manufactured satellite carrier with a heavier payload.
The Nahid-2 communications satellite was launched from Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome using a Soyuz rocket, Iranian state television said on Friday.
Weighing 110kg (240lb), the satellite was designed and manufactured by Iranian engineers, the broadcaster added.
Western governments have long expressed concern that technological advances made in Iran's space programme could also be used to upgrade its ballistic missile arsenal.
In December, Iran announced it had put its heaviest payload to date into space, saying it used a domestically manufactured satellite carrier.
