Ryder Cup 2025: Europe hold off USA fightback as Shane Lowry holes decisive putt
"I've been so lucky to experience amazing things in this game, that was the hardest couple of hours of my life,"
"The Ryder Cup means everything to me. I won The Open in Ireland, it's amazing it's a dream come true, but the Ryder Cup means everything to me."
"He's the greatest captain I think that's ever lived. He's done the best job."
Shane Lowry holed the decisive putt to secure Europe retaining the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black after a late United States fightback. Europe entered the Sunday singles with a seven-point lead that narrowed as Cameron Young, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and JJ Spaun won matches. Lowry trailed Russell Henley by one on the final hole, hit a perfect drive and a stunning approach to set up a birdie chance. Henley missed a follow-up putt from the fairway bunker, allowing Lowry to clinch the point. Tyrrell Hatton halved his match with Collin Morikawa to confirm victory. The 2027 Ryder Cup will be held at Adare Manor in Ireland.
