Sixteen Irish citizens who were on board the Global Sumud flotilla en route to Gaza were intercepted and have been transferred to a detention facility in southern Israel. A meeting of senior officials at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was convened following overnight updates on the situation. Activists are urging the Government to take action regarding a claim of breach of maritime laws related to the interception. The detained individuals remain in Israeli custody while diplomatic and legal responses are being coordinated by relevant officials.
