Dark Humor and the Iranian Resistance

A joke about an Iranian willing to work with Israel and the United States to overthrow the Khamenei regime illustrates the reality of internal opposition to Iran's government. Recent Israeli and American military strikes have successfully targeted Iranian regime leaders, including reportedly killing 48 officials and striking a gathering of senior clerics in Qom. These targeting successes depend on advanced surveillance and cyber capabilities, but also crucially on intelligence provided by Iranians themselves willing to risk their lives to undermine the Islamic Republic. The Iranian people, oppressed and humiliated by their regime, express their desire for change through dark humor and subversive jokes. When official truth is suppressed, jokes become a weapon of resistance for the oppressed.
