"The project management, urban planning, and landscape design were carried out by Ecomimesis Soluções Ecológicas, winner of the public competition organized by the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro in 2023."
The area that became Praça do Mercado in Parque Realengo, Rio de Janeiro, was already active with movement before any formal design decisions. Improvised stalls and informal gatherings appeared alongside music, children running, and adults gathering under temporary shelters. This created a vibrant, ephemeral landscape that suggested an improvised architecture. A project then emerged in this context through work by Juliana Ayako and Carlos Zebulun, Helena Meirelles, Larissa Monteiro, Rodrigo Messina, and Francisco Rivas. Project management, urban planning, and landscape design were carried out by Ecomimesis Soluções Ecológicas, which won a public competition organized by the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro in 2023.
