"Started in 2019 by Layla Cluer near Byron Bay, Australia, Softedge Studio began by designing and producing tableware with a "sculptural twist" and a focus on color, form, and function. Fast forward to 2023, "material shortages and manufacturing bottlenecks," and Act II: Facing roadblocks, Softedge switched gears, pausing its in-house production "in search of a more sustainable model." The happy pivot? "The journey eventually landed Softedge forms in the heartland of Japanese porcelain, Kyushu.""
"Now Layla's signature offerings are made in partnership with "the many hands" of the storied ceramics town of Hasami-all designed with "durability and daily use" in mind. Have a look at a few favorite pieces: Above: "The Dinner Dish was made for meals that like to stretch out-too saucy for a plate, not quite suited to a bowl." It's shown here in Cornflower. Above: The Snack Plate is perfect "for when you're done but not quite done." Shown here in Marshmallow."
Softedge Studio launched in 2019 near Byron Bay, Australia, designing tableware with a sculptural twist and an emphasis on color, form, and function. In 2023 material shortages and manufacturing bottlenecks prompted the brand to pause in-house production and seek a more sustainable model. Production moved to Kyushu and now partners with the many hands of Hasami to produce porcelain focused on durability and daily use. Key pieces include the Dinner Dish, Snack Plate, Medium Bowl Nest, Plate Nest, and Everything Bowl in colorways like Cornflower, Marshmallow, Tomato, Cavalo Nero, and Mustard.
