Canada's Carney travels to Alberta as separatists face legal setback

A court halted Alberta’s planned secession referendum over improper signature-collection procedures and required Indigenous consultation.

Alberta’s proposed independence referendum was blocked because First Nations were not meaningfully consulted and treaty impacts were not addressed.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent endorsed Alberta's secession and suggested Alberta could join the United States.
