Andrew Bird has penned a new song for the HBO series The Pitt. The aptly titled "Need Someone," which Bird wrote with the medical drama's composer, Gavin Brivik, appears in the show's next episode, set to air tonight (February 12) at 9 PM EST. Give it a listen below. The new song is not Bird's first creation for the small screen. He's written music for FX's Baskets and the 2021 PBS documentary series Storm Lake, and made appearances on FX's Fargo and Disney's The Muppets.
In a 2019 interview with Machine Music-one of the few he's ever given-Patrick Walker pushed back on the notion that Warning makes "very loud folk music." His retort, palpably prickly even in text: "I don't see that connection there. Warning was very much about riffs, and was a metal album." It's understandable that Walker's interlocutor would pursue this line of questioning. Warning's singular approach to doom metal has a way of making you disbelieve your own ears.
Today (November 6) marks the 10th anniversary of Khruangbin's 2015 studio debut, The Universe Smiles Upon You. To celebrate, the Houston psych-funk trio has shared a re-recorded and reworked version of the album. Yo La Tengo and Jad Fair have announced a reissue of their rare 1998 collaborative LP Strange but True. Long out-of-print and unavailable to stream, the album will be released on vinyl, CD, and, for the first time, digital platforms. We ended up playing a set that included all but one song off of our new, but still unfinished album. I didn't even know until recently that there was an existing tape of the show. This is a beautiful document of our band at a very crucial and joyous moment in time. I'm so happy that it exists.
Carly Rae Jepsen is reissuing her now-classic 2015 album, , for its 10th anniversary. The new edition arrives October 17 via Interscope. The reissue features 24 tracks, including " Cut to the Feeling," remixes of " Run Away With Me," and four previously unreleased songs: "Guardian Angel," "Back of My Heart," "Lost in Devotion" and "More," the latter of which is out today.
