Any clarity on Stolarz? Berube: "There's actually not right now. He's still not on the ice, so I'm not sure yet where he is at." On Woll: "He's progressing the right way. Like I said, it's probably going to be this week." Tanev has scheduled meeting with Dr. on Wednesday. #Leafs- Terry Koshan πΊπ¦ (@koshtorontosun) December 7, 2025
Benoit was absent from the Leafs lineup on Saturday as he flew home to attend a funeral. He re-joined the team on Monday for practice with head coach Craig Berube confirming that he would be back in the lineup against the Panthers. Dakota Mermis, meanwhile, will be the one coming out as the Leafs look to start stringing some wins together amidst a slow start to the season.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz did not travel with the team for the road trip, as he recovers from an upper-body injury, head coach Craig Berube confirmed via Sportsnet's Luke Fox. Stolarz sustained the injury against the Boston Bruins on November 11 and has been out of action since. Joseph Woll will make his sixth consecutive start on Friday, when the Maple Leafs face off against the Washington Capitals. Dennis Hildeby is widely expected to start Saturday's contest against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"I gotta bear down and make a save," Stolarz said referring to his start. "Giving up the first two shots, not a good way to start the game. I liked our compete, guys came out after that and responded well, and we put a lot of pressure on them. But, you know, you give a team like that a couple freebies, it's going to be difficult to come back."
I thought we started off fine in the second, but we didn't close anything off in our zone. We spent too much time in our zone. They eventually capitalized. We tired ourselves out because we three-quarter-ice'd ourselves in the second period. That cost us the hockey game. That's the result. In saying that, we have to take care of those seams. We know they like them. We didn't do a good enough job there, either. For me, that is the difference in the hockey game.
How well do you know James Reimer, if at all? Berube: He's an NHL goalie. He's been an NHL goalie. I have never met the guy. When do you expect Reimer to join the group? Berube: Tomorrow. Does this suggest that Joseph Woll might take a little bit longer than expected to return? Berube: No, it doesn't suggest anything. It is just depth.
