The suspects two Vallejo men, a Pittsburg man and a San Leandro man were charged with a Jan. 14 incident where plainclothes officers allegedly witnessed the foursome leave a smoke shop, rob someone of an Acura, then drive to a gas station and commit an armed robbery. At that point, uniformed officers showed up and arrested the men, according to court records.
Police west of Toronto say they are looking for suspects after eight high-end vehicles were stolen in an overnight break-in at an Oakville, Ont., leasing business. Halton police say they were called to Lockwood Leasing, in the area of South Service Road W. and Fourth Line, around 3:35 a.m. on Sunday. They say the front window was smashed while the building was unoccupied and suspects accessed a lock box that contained car keys.
Under the nationwide settlement, the companies will offer a free repair to all eligible vehicles at a cost that could top $500 million, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said. Hyundai and Kia must also outfit all future vehicles sold in the U.S. with a key piece of technology called an engine immobilizer and pay up to $4.5 million of restitution to people whose vehicles were damaged by thieves.
