EGO is a push-your-luck, card-driven board game where players act as ambassadors journeying across civilization boards to impress alien civilizations using cards and tokens.
The job that takes me out of the house every morning (and funds my board gaming hobby) is 'analytical chemist'. This means I spend my day running fancily named instruments and explaining to other people what the numbers or graphs they spit out mean. This game is not an expansion; it is a new environment with three new scenarios and requires nothing from the original game. Just like the original, there are three scenarios (with five unique games in each scenario), each with different difficulties from 3 Stars to 7 Stars. The game is played by one to four players. Each scenario has six suspects, six locations, and six time frames that you can investigate.
Unfortunately, despite all of my geographic advantages, I only vaguely understand what any of that means. After years of being steeped in this culture, I can really only identify if something is red or white, and I still put ice cubes in my chardonnay. Players take turns placing Action Discs (numbered 1-5) on one of the four action selection areas. There are two fixed side boards (the Resource board and the Labo(u)r board) where actions don't change, and two areas for card actions (Character and Port decks), which refresh each round. Each action area has spaces numbered 1 to 5, with the higher numbered spaces corresponding to more powerful actions.
