A 177m London tower is being converted into a hotel with public rooftop access and a rooftop swimming pool.
MCR intends to bring one of Britain's most iconic buildings into public use through a hotel‑led, mixed‑use development that celebrates the BT Tower's rich heritage, complements Fitzrovia's historic character, and delivers meaningful placemaking and employment opportunities for the local community.
BT Tower, one of London's most recognizable postwar landmarks, is set to be converted into a hotel. London-based architecture practice Orms has been appointed to lead the redevelopment following the acquisition of the Grade II-listed tower by the American hospitality company MCR Hotels in early 2024.
American hotel chain MCR bought the spindly Fitzrovia superstar from BT Group for a cool £275 million. This was incredibly exciting news, as the former centre of the 'white heat of technology' (as then-Prime Minister Harold Wilson dubbed the communications centre upon its opening in 1964) had reduced public access after anarchist collective the Angry Brigade set off a bomb there in 1971.
