It doesn't take long to realize Burger King's onion rings aren't the real deal. For starters, they're all exactly the same size - something anyone who's ever sliced an onion knows is impossible. The second giveaway comes with the first bite: instead of a sweet onion ring beneath the crunch, you get something closer to an onion-flavored paste. So what's actually inside? A glance at Burger King's own ingredient list reveals the truth. Of the 30 items that go into their rings, only four have anything to do with onions: dehydrated chopped onions, dehydrated minced onions, onion powder, and something simply called "onion flavor."
If there were an Academy Awards-style "In Memoriam segment" for all the discontinued fast food items that still have cult followings, Burger King's forgotten offerings would take up a good chunk of Lady Gaga singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," or whatever. The fast food giant has been around since the 1950s, so it stands to reason that the menu has seen its fair share of changes in that time.
A Burger King representative confirmed to TODAY.com that after a one-year hiatus, its BK Halloween Buckets are making a comeback. Customers can get their hands on the newly designed, limited-edition Halloween Buckets inspired by the burger chain's menu items for $2 at participating U.S. restaurants starting Friday, Oct. 10, while supplies last. The cartoon-covered bucket features a box of Chicken Fries dressed as a mummy, a burger patty wearing a football helmet, and a chicken nugget (or patty) in a witch costume.
On Sept. 10, popular snack-spotting Instagram account Markie Devo posted leaked information about collectible Scooby-Doo toys coming to Burger King this fall. The toys are inspired by Scooby Doo's Halloween specials and taps into the nostalgia of catching the villain (thanks to those meddling kids.) A Burger King representative confirmed to TODAY.com that its King Jr. Meals will "feature a fun lineup of collectible toys inspired by Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Gang," available at its restaurants nationwide starting Sept. 16.
