Alison Gaffney and Andy Hinde received the devastating news that their 17-month-old son, Fraser, had a rare type of leukaemia in 2018. Two years of gruelling treatment followed, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy, before a stem cell transplant. Fraser, then aged three, made a miraculous recovery from the surgery, before doctors declared the cancer in remission. It was at this point, as Fraser started to recover and grow stronger, that Gaffney, 36, began to look for answers.
Not long after, he met Sahil Mehta, a South Bay teen who had also lost his brother to the same brain cancer. Their parents began talking about launching a foundation, and the boy's paths kept crossing - at each other's homes, on ski trips, at fundraising events. Over time, their friendship deepened, rooted in the kind of loss few others their age could understand.
"She lived 11 of her 14 years with a relentless cancer, yet lived more fully and gratefully than most. Her being changed us forever, and her dying will too," they continued. The Wisconsin teen's loved ones went on to say that the final reel Beine posted just days ago "captures what she was grateful for - a testament to a life filled with both beauty and suffering."
