Carlos, the main subject, is one such case: originally from Mexico, he crossed the border at the age of nine with his three brothers and his parents. Now in his late 30s, Carlos has spent all of his adult life in America, yet there is no legal pathway for him to citizenship. A tragedy looms large. Jorge, one of Carlos's siblings, was deported to Mexico after a minor driving offence, leaving behind his partner and his son.

This month, Oklahoma's Attorney General joined with the U.S. Department of Justice in a lawsuit seeking to overturn an Oklahoma state law giving in-state higher education tuition rates to undocumented residents. The lawsuit piggybacks off a January executive order titled Protecting the American People Against Invasion, part of which required the Attorney General and the Department of Homeland Security to review contracts with organizations that continued to provide services to undocumented immigrants.

President Trump's administration scrapped a Texas law that provided financial aid for 'Dreamers,' undermining a nearly 25-year bipartisan agreement, through a joint motion with the Texas Attorney General.
