Since 1990, Murray Horwitz and the late Susan Stamberg have been celebrating Hanukkah with stories about family, faith, friendship and community. This year, to honor Susan's memory, we reflect on her 34 years of performances that can still move us, make us laugh and bring us fresh meaning plus one new story to fill this festival of lights with gratitude. A Jewish girl with a loud voice is chosen to narrate her school's Christmas pageant.

Kelly Ghaisar taught her son to view police as protectors, unaware that her son, Bijan, would later need to navigate a frightening encounter with them.

"As soon as we boarded the cruise ship, we began noticing strange details. Chipping paint, broken deck chairs, torn sun umbrellas. Above deck, the ride was choppy at best, and people all around us were getting seasick."

Hope Sutton of Wilmington, N.C. reflects on her grandfather's service during WWII and her father's experience in the Vietnam War, emphasizing the honor of service.
