Erik Fleming is now the fourth person to be sentenced in connection with Perry's death. He had been facing up to 25 years in prison but got a much lesser sentenced because he cooperated with prosecutors. As part of sentence, the 56-year-old will also have to complete three years of supervised release after his 24 months behind bars.

"The public's interest is both substantial and compelling, and is best served by proceeding to trial without delay," wrote Deputy U.S. Attorney Sean Buckley.

"They're trying their best to humiliate and degrade me as much as they possibly can," Baraka said. "I feel like what we did was completely correct. We did not violate any laws."

Several federal prosecutors have resigned from their positions following a controversial plea deal offered to a sheriff's deputy who used excessive force, raising concerns about integrity.
