Rape survivor turned feminist campaigner Gisèle Pelicot, along with her daughter Caroline Darian, led the march in Paris, saying: "We will never give up". Her daughter added: "I am very honoured to be here with my mother, who gives a real message of hope to all victims in France."
A report released in February by Denmark's Museum of Art in Public Spaces found that 484 monuments in the country depict historically significant men, compared with just 43 depicting women. Meanwhile, over 120 public sculptures are of naked women from literature and mythology.
Going out and demonstrating is really important. But if you don't feel comfortable demonstrating, you can volunteer for organizations, you can donate to organizations, you can sign petitions, you can call your senator. There's no excuse not to be involved on some level.
Marsha eventually brought her salon to campus and founded the Comparative Literature Women's Caucus, an activist collective that established the first women's literature classes in Comparative Literature, conceived and taught by graduate student women. Caucus members helped produce the first major translation anthologies of women's world-wide poetry, encouraged women to write feminist dissertations on women authors, and researched discrimination against women in the department.
