My boyfriend and I (we're both men) are both in our late 20s. We started dating in our last year of university and moved in together about a year after. He's very good at those in-demand tech and number-focused computer skills, so he already had good employment lined up before graduation. I struggled to find full-time work in my field, and worked part-time while doing the household cleaning, cooking, shopping, etc.
A friend has this absolutely annoying habit of doing laundry while entertaining guests. We are all aware that she has five children three of her own, and two of her sister's kids of whom she has custody and therefore probably has more laundry to do then some of us. But it is always thrown in everyone's faces how much she has to do when she invites friends over for barbecues, Friday night get-togethers, whatever the case may be.
Some couples bicker for the better part of their time together. Others may prefer to simmer in silence until something like a misplaced sock becomes a referendum on the relationship as a whole. Conflict, in its many shapes and sizes, is par for the course in intimacy. For this reason, psychologists rarely concern themselves with whether or not couples fight anymore; all signs point to the fact that conflict exists in some way or another in a majority of relationships.
When we were young, poor, and renting, my husband was always a slob; he never picked up after himself, left his dirty and clean clothes together in a mountain on his side of the bed, would rather die than wash a dish, etc. His car was putrid. As a medium clean person (but not a neat freak), I was annoyed by the clutter and grossness.
The inconvenient rule involves purposely making the laundry inconvenient so that you don't put it off and let the piles grow. This method calls for folding laundry right in the laundry room.
