Jorge Polanco agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal with the Mets to primarily play first base and serve as designated hitter while providing infield depth.
The Mariners struck gold with last winter's re-signing of Jorge Polanco on a $6MM free agent deal. They attributed his down 2024 season to a knee injury that had required postseason meniscus surgery. The switch-hitting infielder rewarded their faith by connecting on 26 home runs with a .265/.326/.495 slash across 524 plate appearances. Polanco has certainly put himself in position for a more lucrative trip this time around.
The Red Sox' outline for free agency appears to be coming into shape a week ahead of the Winter Meetings. On top of adding a top position player on the open market, the Red Sox are open to adding a complementary position player, The Boston Globe's Alex Speier reported. Speier mentioned that Mariners infielder Jorge Polanco could be a target as the complementary player the Red Sox would go after in free agency.
Recreating the magic of a run to Game 7 of the World Series is never easy, but this is the task Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins faces this offseason. How do you improve a roster that came within two outs of winning it all? How do you build a team incrementally better to secure those final precious outs of the season? With plenty of players coming and going this offseason, it's an uphill battle for the Blue Jays to defend their honour as American League Champions, but they're hoping they can pull a 2014 Kansas City Royals and run it right back to the World Series after also losing in Game 7.
