For months now, the Dodgers have had a problem with coming out flat after a day off no matter how they were playing before, and today was no exception as they again were blanked early by Justin Verlander. Once again, it was Yoshinobu Yamamoto victimized despite yet again dealing. However, they both got a no-decision as the game stayed deadlocked into extras, and eventually things ended in controversy when a foul tip call was overturned and eventually resulted in a walk-off grand slam for the Giants to hand the Dodgers a 5-1 loss.
Right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (11-8, 2.72 ERA) is starting for LA, coming off his 8.2 no-hit innings against the Baltimore Orioles in his most recent start before giving up a Jackson Holliday home run in the ninth inning. Opposite Yamamoto will be right-hander Justin Verlander (3-10, 4.09 ERA), who's pitched back-to-back scoreless starts, throwing a total of 11 innings with 16 strikeouts and just six hits allowed.
Prior to the 2025 MLB season, the Toronto Blue Jays signed three-time Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer to a one-year contract. With his experience, it seemed like a quality signing for the Blue Jays to add to the rotation. Scherzer's 2025 season has had some struggles, dealing with injuries and rough starts. However, a steady July and August helped the Blue Jays to keep their AL East Division lead. At 41 years old, Scherzer turned into a quality starter on the Blue Jays roster.
ST. LOUIS The Giants lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Saturday night at Busch Stadium as closer Ryan Walker allowed three runs in the bottom of the ninth without recording a single out, ending San Francisco's winning streak at five games. Nolan Gorman and Mason Wynn led off the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back singles, then Walker loaded the bases by plunking Jimmy Crooks.
