The Court of Appeal (CoA) has dismissed an appeal against awards of €95,000 each to two Italian brothers who a jury found were maliciously prosecuted by gardai following their mistaken arrest in relation to an alleged handbag theft in Dublin. Marco Gambucci, who runs a real estate business in Sardinia, and his brother Luca, a public servant in Perugia, sued Pearse Street, Dublin-based then Garda, now Sergeant Daniel Barry and Garda Jonathan Petrie as well as the Garda Commissioner and the State.
Former federal prosecutor Jeffrey Toobin said there is no way that President Donald Trump's reported attempt to receive $230 million in taxpayer money can be resolved in an ethical way. Toobin called the conflict of interest so obvious and egregious. On Tuesday, The New York Times reported that Trump is seeking $230 million from the Department of Justice over its investigations into him.
