Portland has an incredible jazz scene. Always has, hopefully always will. From the historically Black Albina district to KMHD Jazz Radio, Montevilla Jazz Festival to the Jack London Revue, The 1905 jazz bar to Albina Music Trust-the Rose City's cup runneth over with world class jazz music. Champion of the genre, the Portland Jazz Festival has been bridging the gap between inter/national jazz musicians and local artists since 2003.

From small country churches to the stages of the civil rights movement to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Mavis Staples' career has spanned more than 60 years. The gospel legend has shown no interest in retirement. Her new album, One True Vine, is her second collaboration with Wilco's Jeff Tweedy. "It's a totally different CD," Staples tells NPR's Neal Conan.

Mavis Staples has announced her 14th solo album, Sad and Beautiful World, due out on November 7 via ANTI-. It was produced by Phil Cook, with Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Jeff Tweedy, Katie Crutchfield, MJ Lenderman, Justin Vernon, and Derek Trucks all making appearances on it. The album includes her cover of Frank Ocean's "Godspeed" from June, and she's shared another track, a rendition of Kevin Morby's "Beautiful Strangers," which you can hear below.
